On being well read: Part 3

digital-library

The first installment of the On being well read series of posts included a number of cautions for the aspiring well read professional. At this point I would strongly suggest that you take a moment to review the cautions as the possibility of information overload is about to get real.

insideHE

Inside Higher Ed is free, online, higher education focused news magazine that include breaking news, feature stories, career development pieces, opinion articles, and job postings. As you can see by the image above, you can subscribe to a weekly update that is delivered to your inbox.  Here are a few samples from last year: 1) Exploring how faculty use technology to communicate with students, 2) the defining of microaggressions and the balance of care with academic freedom, and 3) an opinion piece from a college president about the biggest challenges facing higher education today.

UniversityBusiness2

University Business is a magazine written for presidents and other senior officers at two- and four-year colleges and universities throughout the United States. University Business reaches, by request, 46,000 leaders who manage offices such as enrollment, technology, facilities, academic affairs, and legislation. The magazine covers all aspects of university and college management. Sample stories include: 1) a forecasting of 2017 trends in higher education and 2) a summary of the UB campus facilities/safety and security survey.

CollegePlanningAndManagement

Similar to University Business, College Planning and Management targets top-level decision makers at colleges and universities nationwide with practitioner-based articles, topical supplements and special reports that focus on Facilities, Safety & Security, Technology, Business and Finance and the Campus Scene. Although on the heavy side in terms of product promotion, CP&M offers another perspective about issues facing our campuses, to include: 1) a discussion about outsourcing custodial services and 2) a whitepaper on the daily operation issues that concern college and university housing administrators.

CampusSafety

Campus Safety Magazine provides information for campus police chiefs, security directors, IT personnel and executive administrators involved in the public safety and security of major hospitals, school districts and universities in the United States. The magazine offers articles about the Jeanne Clery Act and Title IX, campus safety, and the broader work of emergency management.
