Note to the reader: At best, I’m a periodic blogger. Thank you for your patience and I hope you enjoy.

What you see here is a slice of the actual map from my first adventure race. I have had it now for more than 16 years. Although I would not necessarily call myself a ‘pack rat,’ there are times that I find meaning in things that others might discard. I find meaning in many of the things now tucked away in my basement. This wrinkled and stained map is one such artifact. This map represents monumental failure. Failure Realized. Continue reading

Ice Climbing. Think about it for just a moment . . . . .

I would guess that most of you could quite easily use the activity of ice climbing to share lessons about leadership, supervision, working with students, and so on. You might talk about “overcoming obstacles,” “going for the top,” “pushing yourself,” “getting support from others,” and all that jazz that would come from the use of the metaphor ‘climbing a mountain’ to explain the concept of leadership. Here is what I would share as Lessons from the Ice.

Translation – Our Community of Teachers and Scholars

Another school year has come to an end and like many educators around the world, we have closed one chapter and begun planning for another in our journey to support the learning of our “scholars.” Last semester, quarter, or term is over – our students took a much deserved break – and soon they will be back at it.

With a new term beginning shortly, this is also a time when many are considering the accomplishments of the past semester or year. As most staff and faculty in higher education are very, very busy – maybe a bit of context as you reflect on the last term and move forward into what fall has to offer.

Consider our beginnings…
